History

Technical Education Quality Improvement Programme (TEQIP) was envisaged as a long-term programme of about 10-12 years duration to be implemented in 2-3 phases for transformation of the Technical Education System with the World Bank assistance.
NIT Calicut has successfully completed the TEQIP Phase-I in 2007 and TEQIP-II in 2017, and has witnessed noticeable changes in the facilities and infrastructure. TEQIP Phase-II-Subcomponent 1.2, which was started in 2010-2011 and the total project outlay for this Institute is Rs.12,50,00, 000/-. NIT Calicut fruitfully and effectively utilized the grant money for the Institute Development activities.

Introduction about TEQIP-III

The Project, third phase of Technical Education Quality Improvement Programme is fully integrated with the Twelfth Five-year Plan objectives for Technical Education as a key component for improving the quality of Engineering Education in existing institutions with a special consideration for Low Income States and Special Category States and support to strengthen few affiliated technical universities to improve their policy, academic and management practices.
The Project will focus on the following objectives:
(i) Improving quality and equity in engineering institutions in focus states viz. 7 Low Income States (LIS1), eight states in the North-East of India, three Hill states viz. Himachal Pradesh, Jammu & Kashmir, Uttarakhand and Andaman and Nicobar Islands (a union territory (UT)),
(ii) System-level initiatives to strengthen sector governance and performance which include widening the scope of Affiliating Technical Universities (ATUs) to improve their policy, academic and management practices towards affiliated institutions, and
(iii) Twinning Arrangements to Build Capacity and Improve Performance of institutions and ATUs participating in focus states.

Participation of Institute in TEQIP-III

NIT Calicut is a participant institute in Technical Education Quality Improvement Programme Phase III (TEQIP – III) Government of India. The Institute has been selected as a mentor institute (sub component 1.3) in twinning arrangement and assigned Govt. Engineering College Bharatpur, Rajasthan (sub component 1.1) ( www.ecbharatpur.ac.in ) as a mentee institute. The key areas include knowledge transfer, exchange of experience, optimizing the use of resources and developing long-term strategic partnerships.
